Dr. Kostas Ioannidis

Kostas was awarded a Student Scholarship by the Hellenic Scientific Society and the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (www.iky.gr) and graduated from the School of Dentistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2007.

In 2010, he successfully completed the MSc Degree of Specialization in Endodontics (Dept. of Endodontology, School of Dentistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece). This is one of the very few programs across Europe, which is accredited by the European Society of Endodontology (E.S.E.), providing the Specialty Certificate in the E.U.

In 2011, Kostas entered his name in the General Dental Council Specialist List in Endodontics (UK) successfully. Over the last 10 years, Kostas provides specialist endodontic referral services in Central and Greater London areas, Kent, Surrey, Wiltshire and Hertfordshire. Kostas has also worked for the National Health Service (NHS) at Guy’s Hospital, Central London NHS Trust and operated the NHS Specialist Referral service for the Lewisham area in South East London for 7 years.

In 2013, Kostas decided to progress in his academic career at Guy’s Hospital, Centre for Oral Clinical & Translational Science, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London, UK. In 2019, he completed his PhD in Endodontology and Dental Materials with title: ‘Formation of toxic disinfection by-products during chemomechanical preparation of infected root canals and alternative methods for root canal disinfection’.

Currently, Kostas serves as a Clinical Alumni (KCL Dental Institute, Unit of Distance Learning, LonDEC, Waterloo Campus, MSc in Endodontics) and is a Honorary Post-Doctoral Research Associate (Centre for Host-Microbiome Interactions, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London, UK). He lectures to the postgraduate students of the MClinDent Specialist Training pathway, as well as the MSc (distance learning) in Endodontics.

During the second Covid lock-down in UK, Kostas attended a course in medical forensics and was recently awarded with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Forensic Medical Sciences (Academy of Forensic Medical Sciences, UK).

He believes in continuous education, professional development and life-long learning. He is author in several scientific publications in journals with high impact factor and lectures in prestigious international and hellenic conferences. He is an active member of the British Endodontic Society, European Society of Endodontology and the International Association of Dental Research. Kostas is manuscript reviewer in several international per-reviewed dental Journals.

In his limited spare time, he enjoys travelling, playing basketball and attending to music concerts.
