Orthodontic treatment involves straightening or moving teeth to improve both their appearance and how they function. It is also useful for the long-term health of the teeth, gums and jaw joints. It works by spreading the biting pressure over all the teeth and lessening any crowding in your mouth.

Orthodontic treatment is suitable for all ages, however it is advisable for young children to wait until all adult teeth are through before starting treatment.

In many cases we use a system called Invisalign®. This system uses tough, clear plastic aligners that straighten your teeth. Several sets of specifically moulded aligners are made for you, each one slightly different. You wear each set for two weeks before replacing it with the next one in the series. And so gradually they move your teeth into the desired position.

Complex cases involving severe crowding of teeth or jaw cases including over and under-bites are referred to our resident Consultant Orthodontist who will discuss with you all the possible courses of treatment. There are many alternatives to choose from, we use various types of treatment such as Incognito (lingual braces) which are invisible as fixed to the back of your teeth, Clarity brackets (clear ceramic brackets), Damon self ligation brackets and standard metal brackets.

Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere between a few months to two and a half years, depending on how complicated the treatment is. A a degree of patience is important, however the results are worth the wait. Most simple cases can be treated in under a year.

Braces do not damage teeth however clients must be mindful that braces can trap some food and cause extra levels of plaque to build up around your teeth. It is important to clean your teeth more carefully than usual during orthodontic treatment.
