Word of mouth

Waterside Dental Health re-brands to Mouth and opens a new site in the heart of Canary Wharf (Mouth – Churchill Place) to offer specialist dental services with high-end customer service

In times of economic hardship it’s even more important to celebrate business growth and expansion. Since opening its doors in Canary Warf in 2004, Waterside Dental Health has evolved into a flourishing and cutting edge dental practice, offering general and specialists services to those in East London and beyond.

While many are putting their businesses on hold, Waterside is forging ahead with plans to re-brand with a new name – Mouth – and a second clinic site in Churchill Place, Canary Wharf.

“Our aim has always been to remain at the cutting edge of dentistry. We have always invested in the huge expanding aspect of digital dentistry, on-site printing, and three-dimensional scanning which is part of a global evolution in all industries.”

From small beginnings

Waterside Dental Health (WDH) is owned by Dr Nitin Nagpaul and Dr Suneil Amin. Initially a general dental practice for routine and cosmetic treatments, they soon realised that what patients needed was more specialist dental care.

Being based in the heart of one of London’s key business and financial districts meant that the clinic’s clientele wanted high-end, state-of-the-art services that were also time-effective and WDH rose to the challenge.

Within 18 months it had recruited its first tier of dental specialists, enabling its clientele to access a wider range of treatments on site and saving them invaluable time. It has continued to grow and expand its services ever since.

While other dental practices have changed ownership many times over, Waterside has become one of the longest standing dental health care providers in Canary Wharf.

It’s emphasis on quality of care and investment in new technology means it now services more than 9,000 private patients and has become the leading dental and specialist referral centre in East London, with more than 50 surrounding clinics referring complex cases to it.

“Not only do we operate the longest standing dental centre in Canary Wharf under the same ownership, but we provide a flawless and complete patient journey”, says Dr Amin.

The clinic’s growing reputation as a leading centre of excellence and increasing demand saw the practice evolve from a two-surgery dental clinic to a four-surgery specialist clinic, operating at close to full capacity. Outgrowing its flagship site, the decision was made to expand and Drs Nagpaul and Amin felt it was the perfect time to add a fresh, modern feel to the clinics with a new name and a new look.

“Despite our onsite expansion we have outgrown our solitary site”, explains Dr Nagpaul. “After years of deliberation we have decided to make the jump to multiple sites. With this energy and enthusiasm we have also decided to rebrand our health services. We feel ‘Mouth’ does just that. It is different and stands out, helping differentiate us from the rest, we feel it will get people talking. Our core principles, practices and staffing base remain resolute so there is no change for our highly valued patients – just a new name and logo to welcome them through our doors.”

New beginnings

Mouth (South Quay), formerly Waterside Dental Health, is located opposite the JP Morgan building. The clinic is a five minute walk from Canary Wharf underground station as well as from West India Quay and Canary Wharf DLR stations. The surrounding area is undergoing huge regeneration with multiple high end luxury residential building developments being completed.

Mouth – Churchill Place is located opposite Starbucks, Birley’s Cafe and Ted’s Grooming Salon, all of which are hugely popular within the Churchill Place retail mall, the new clinic is surrounded by multiple buildings which accommodate some of the leading global players in the financial industries and is also a stones-throw from the busiest Waitrose in London, accessible 24 hours a day via a footbridge.

There is currently no dental clinic on this side of Canary Wharf that provides high end digital dentistry or that has extended opening hours and the ability to utilise dental specialists/consultants in house.

Mouth (Churchill Place) will have three main core facets, including dental and facial aesthetics treatments, hygiene services and access to specialist treatments at the flagship site Mouth (South Quay)

General dental treatments will including fillings, cleaning, simple extractions and also cosmetic procedures such as whitening and veneers. Facial rejuvenation treatments, such as botox and dermal fillers will also be offered.

The importance of dental hygiene for overall health and wellbeing is becoming more and more of a focus and Mouth (Churchill Place) will offer easy access to such services including standard cleans and specialist airflow cleans for stain removal.

Patients at the new clinic will also be able to seamlessly transition to specialist services via its inter-clinic referral scheme. This will include access to complex treatments such as orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, implants and oral surgery. The flagship Mouth (South Quay) clinic, formerly Waterside Dental Health, is just a 10 minute walk away.

“The primary goal is to exceed customer expectations, using our expertise in providing patients with a clinic where they can address their dental needs as well as all hygiene services under one roof”, says Dr Amin. “To work synergistically with our specialists at our Mouth (South Quay) clinic to offer customers all specialists treatments under the same umbrella – unique to Canary Wharf. The patients in and around Churchill Place will be able to access a new dental clinic with extended clinic opening times for their convenience.”

“The two clinics working under one umbrella side-by-side and the ability to cross refer between the Churchill Place clinic and our existing specialists at South Quay will provide a great service and a more fluid patient journey for all, no matter their dental needs. We will not have to refer any patients out for treatment keeping everything in house across both clinics.”

Plans for the future

There’s no slowing down for Dr Nagpaul and Dr Amin. The business plans to open a third clinic in 2021 within the Battersea, Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms.

“We are looking to expand and extend our services from the eastern side of the capital”, says Dr Amin. “This has been an integral part of our business plan for a short while and we consider Battersea, Nine Elms Development the perfect fit. The residents and workers within the Nine Elms development are likely to be a very similar demographic to those within Canary Wharf and, given our extensive experience we anticipate a seamless transition in providing our expert care.”

This new clinic, Mouth (Nine Elms), will also have a teaching facility where in-house specialists will be able to host lectures and seminars for other dental clinicians to learn and develop their skills.

Dental clinics are still able to provide emergency and urgent dental care during the COVID-19 lockdown with other services looking preliminarily set to resume in early July. The new clinic is set to open in Summer 2021.

Providing support for peers

As well as serving the local residential population and business community, the clinical team at Mouth also provides support for dentists all around the area and from further afield. Its specialists and consultants are active in both teaching and education and it holds professional development lectures for referring practitioners.

“Our reputation within our profession is just as valuable as the trust of our patients themselves”, says Dr Nagpaul.
