Combining bite correction expertise with improved orthodontic treatments
From Invisalign to lingual braces, you have several orthodontic treatment options to correct an overbite. The misalignment isn’t purely cosmetic but also a health issue to many. From being unable to fully close the mouth to having jaw pain, an overbite can cause various problems.
Fixing overbites at a younger age often prevents the need for surgery. Invisalign offers clear aligners with the mandibular advancement feature for tweens and teens. Precision wings gradually push the jaw forward. It improves the bite and appearance of the chin. Invisalign can also help treat adult overbites.
If traditional metal braces are not convenient for you, choose something more discreet, like clear braces or lingual braces. Your orthodontist will help you choose the most suitable option depending on the severity of your overbite.
Damon braces have revolutionised conventional metal braces with its self-litigating sliding system that connects archwires to brackets instead of elastic ties. They are a more comfortable and swift treatment to regular metal braces. The self-ligating brackets apply frictionless force onto the teeth to help them move.
Severe overbites may need teeth extraction, crowns, dental bonding, and in some cases surgery. Overbites can worsen with time, causing further dental and oral complications. Find your personalised treatment plan and get the benefit of the latest orthodontic treatment available.

Frequently asked questions
What is an overbite?
An overbite is when the top front teeth protrude too far beyond the bottom front teeth. A proper bite requires a slight overbite, generally 2-4mm, but the front teeth should fit over the bottom teeth and not leave a gap between them. An overbite can be both horizontal and vertical. An overbite of more than 4mm, known as a deep overbite, is recommended for treatment.
What causes overbite?
Genetics, childhood thumb-sucking, overuse of pacifiers, tongue thrusting, and teeth problems such as missing, impacted, or extra teeth can cause an overbite.
How is an overbite treated?
The most common orthodontic treatment for an overbite is braces, followed by a retainer. Braces alone are effective for most overbites.
Are there treatment options for severe cases?
Severe cases may need treatment options like tooth extraction and surgery. If a misaligned jaw is causing the overbite, surgery can help reposition jaws and teeth. Teeth removal for adults enables other teeth to move into place. Children and teens may need baby teeth removal to make space to allow permanent teeth to erupt fully in the mouth.
Is overbite treatment painful or invasive?
Teeth straightening methods like braces are not invasive or painful. They might need some getting used to in the beginning and cause mild discomfort when tightened, which is easily manageable and goes away on its own. Tooth extraction and jaw surgery need anaesthesia which makes the procedures painless.
Does overbite treatment require surgical procedures?
Surgery is needed to reposition the jaw when braces aren’t enough to correct it. Jaw surgery can correct skeletal overbite and is usually only performed on adults.
What happens if an overbite is left untreated?
An untreated overbite worsens with age. It can cause irreparable tissue damage, early loss of the upper incisors, and excessive wearing of the lower incisors. Other complications resulting from an overbite include gum disease, TMJ disorders, tooth decay, teeth wearing down, jaw pain, eating difficulty, the inability to close the mouth, difficulty speaking, and sleep apnea.
How long does it take to treat overbite?
Minor overbite correction can take just a year. More complex cases can take anywhere between 18 months to 4 years. The length of time depends on the severity of the case and the different treatment methods used in your treatment plan.
How long do results last?
Results are long-term and meant to last a lifetime. It might be necessary to finish your orthodontic treatments with a retainer. Retainers prevent relapses.
How much does overbite treatments cost?
The cost depends on the treatment methods used. Our professionals give you a transparent cost breakdown at the initial consultation. We offer flexible payment options, including interest-free finance.
